CWJ:
This is quite a bit more organized than what they do in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, where junk cars are just strewn throughout the woods.

Apparently the owner estimates he has 12,000 cars over 100 acres. He must be so proud.
Here’s a Bing Maps link if you’d like to explore it yourself. Tip: Switch to Bird’s Eye View for a more intimate perspective.

These dreamy photos reveal a narrow metal path leading to the awesome Haʻikū Stairs, also known as the Stairway to Heaven or Haʻikū Ladder. It’s a steep hiking trail on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu and, according to Friends of Haiku Stairs, there are 3,922 steps on this mysterious stairway.

“The Haiku Stairs, or the Stairway to Heaven, is a semi-secret forbidden hike on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The stairs were originally built in 1943 to install antenna cables as part of a larger military radio communication system to communicate with US Navy submarines as far away as Tokyo Bay. The original wooden steps were replaced by metal, cable-supported stairs in the early 1950s when the US Coast Guard took over the installation.”

Read more about the Haʻikū Stairs over at TYWKIWDBI.

For you iPhone photographers out there, SmugMug has just released a free app called Camera Awesome that got a pretty good review from the Wall Street Journal.

Of the photo apps out there, few come close to Camera Awesome. The app has 297 presets, filters, textures and frames, along with and many other features like image stabilization and burst modes. The popular Instagram has far fewer photo effects, lacks things like image stabilization or burst modes, and doesn’t include video recording. Inventive Inc.’s Camera+ has some of Camera Awesome’s helpful shooting modes, but costs $1.99 and doesn’t have as many effects, or video mode.

It does not appear to require a SmugMug account to use. One drawback is that tumblr does not appear to be on the list of sites with built-in one-touch sharing.
Supposedly, an Android version is in the works.

The editor for Boston.com’s Big Shots blog got a bit cheeky with some of the captions in this week’s post.

Far Out Photos

This afternoon we saw an underwater photography exhibit by Norm Vexler. I thought his work was excellent. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, you might want to check out his web site. Caution, though: the site is built entirely on Flash, so don’t try this with an ithingy.

The story attached to this photo is completely ridiculous.
I had a run-in with the law this evening. Just next door to the Olympic Park is the aquarium and the Coke Museum with a big field in between. There were about a fifty people or so there at the park. I set up my tripod to take a photo of downtown and the Coke Museum was in the middle of the shot. A female cop of came over and told me I had to take down the tripod because I looked like a professional. Coke does not allow that, so she said. I said I’m a blogger with expensive toys and hardly a threat. Then she got quite huffy and agitated before telling me if I did not take down the tripod that I would be arrested.
